Guitar Wiring Colors A guitar pickup is actually much like a dynamic mike coil. For many years, dynamic microphones have already been wired with the voice coil mounted on the primary of the microphone's transformer, and perhaps not referenced to soil (‘floating'). The microphone's case is normally linked to the wire shield, which is attached to the mike amplifier's ground (see Rane's website for more discussion).
By and big, energetic microphones are extremely quiet products as a result of the combination of transformer isolation and healthy, suspended sign lines throughout, along with protected, humbucking coils.
So why not instruments? Instruments are notoriously overwhelmed by noise. Humbucking pickups are merely a partial (though important!) solution. Well-known alternative would be to float the guitar collection to a healthy production, as being a microphone.
